Mountaineer Rock Gym will be located in Charleston, WV and look forward to serving the greater Charleston area. We plan to offer nearly 6,000 square feet of top rope climbing and bouldering for climbers of all ages and skill levels. Our friendly staff will create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere making Mountaineer Rock Gym an awesome place to relax and climb.

Our vision is to educate those who want to learn more about climbing so that they enjoy the sport safely.  We pledge that our knowledge base will always align with the forefront of the climbing industry as knowledge and techniques evolve.  MRG will provide a unique climbing experience through routes and problems that challenge all levels of climbers as well as the tools and facilities to assist development of those individuals. 

Staff

The staff we plan to hire will friendly, outgoing people who are enthusiastic about climbing and looking for a different kind of job. Someone with previous experience working in a service related job position is preferred. Meet the Owners

David Statler Jr.

Dave loves it all; everything. Life and especially ROCK CLIMBING! He has been climbing for over 10 years and working with ropes for over 15. His passion lies deep within and he lets it out on every new project he is trying to send. After finishing school, Dave really wanted to stay in the beautiful state of West Virginia and start his own climbing gym. David gives all the credit to God for making this possible. Developing and starting a successful Rock Gym has been a dream of his for many years. In making this possible, he paired up with one of his best friends, Mike Wynn, who also had the same dream, to really turn this dream into a reality and share the fun and excitement of Rock Climbing.

Mike Wynn

Mike has been very blessed with the opportunity to come back to West Virginia and open an indoor rock climbing facility. Mike has been climbing for a little over 6 years.  He has a Bachelor of Science with an emphasis in Experiential Education from WVU and has spent the last few years working in the industry as Program Director for an outdoor education company.  Mike is looking forward to sharing the experience of rock climbing with others and how to do it safely.  He's psyched to be able to bring this opportunity to the Kanawha Valley!
